Today after an hour & 20 minute drive to Rochester, some searching around by the US tech we finally discovered that Baby B is a girl!

She seems incredibly happy - moving around (maybe a bit too much to get some good pictures!) waving, trying to get her fingers in her mouth… we are very excited!

It’s election day!

18w, 4d update!

Wow, time has been flying!

I thought the first tri flew by, mostly because of sleep.  2nd tri is flying by just as fast… probably because we are cranking away on the house, diapers and I just accepted a permanent job where I’ve been contracting the last 6 months!

2nd Tri Ultrasound

This past week we had our 2nd tri ultrasound!  Look at that baby!  Can you believe it?  I think it already has Brian’s nose just from the profile…  here is what I am looking like on the outside:

Unfortunately Baby B didn’t want to be cool and show us his/her sex quite yet.  (However this was another indication of gymnastics ability - he/she kept their legs together!!!)  We are going to go get a 3d/4d US in Rochester in two weeks and will get Baby B to cooperate then.

Onto the news about the job - yes, I am an official employee of Johnson & Johnson!  Pretty much nothing is changing about what I do other than that I will still be employed after March.  Blamire Performance is going to be transitioned out (I’ll probably still keep the blog though).  I really have no need for it now.

Why did I decide to go for this job?

I actually had absolutely no intentions to go permanent ever again.  I love the freedom of working for myself.  However after talking to a few people, I decided “just to apply” and see where it went.  Well, it ended up being offered to me at what I wanted… plus they have some amazing benefits.

First off, even though I will only be there about 5 months before I have the baby, they are giving me maternity leave 2 weeks @ 100% then up to 26 more weeks @ 75% of pay!  Insane!  They also throw in another week of “family addition” time at 100%.

Secondly, J&J is rated one of the top 100 companies for working moms by multiple polls.  Not only is everyone extremely excited for me, but they let me be flexible for Dr. appointments and naps!  Last week I had to have a physical for the new job and the nurse was telling me how encouraging they are for working moms to breastfeed.  They have multiple lounges in my building to go and pump.  They even will supply us with a new ($290 value) pump for only $125!!!!

Finally, there are just a million other reason that this company is great.  It does not have the “corporate” feel that I have seen at other places.  I’m really happy, honored, blessed, excited, ect… to have received this offer!

So that’s it for now.  Target had a deal on Wii games today - buy two get one free, so I picked up three new games for Bri and I to play tonight :p

Sweet Baby Potato!

Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby’s finally big enough that you’ll be able to feel those movements soon.

Cloth Diapering

Stack of home-made diapers!, originally uploaded by itslinds63.

Well, I am an official cloth diapering momma!

This weekend is a long weekend for me (took a few days off just to relax and putter around the house). I made it my weekend of “figuring out” the cloth diaper sewing scene.

But the big question is, why are we cloth diapering?

1) Why not? Honestly, I don’t feel like there is a reason NOT to cloth diaper. Until fairly recently, most babies were cloth diapered! Why did it stop? People wanted convenience and became to be lazy (to be blunt).

***Note: I think this is societal, not individually based.  So many people don’t even know what cloth diapers are because they aren’t even an option to purchase in most stores!

2) It’s economical. Depending on the diapers you choose and the number of children you will cloth diaper, it is VERY economical. I am going to be making (buying some) all of the diapers I should need for 1 kid in about $600. When it comes for kid #2, I will have everything I need (of course I’ll probably add a few more when I want more sewing projects!)

3) It’s better for the baby. Once you feel the inside of these, you will realize that natural fibers on the bum are way better than plastic with gel. I’m jealous…

4) It’s better for the environment. I’m not a huge green fanatic, but we all need to do our part. This is one of the contributions my family will make.

Week 15

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 | Baby B | No Comments

Continuing the march towards normal proportions, baby’s legs now outmeasure the arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably still can’t feel the movements.

Week 14

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 | Baby B | No Comments

Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.
